Volunteer Opportunities
There are many reasons why people volunteer. You may want to get involved in your community, help others out because someone helped you out in a time of need, or you may want to meet other people. These are just a handful of reasons why people volunteer.
There are five ways to volunteer at AOK Friends and each contribution will make a difference.
The Cook Site
Before serving food to the homeless in our beautiful city of Seattle we need to cook it. We serve things that have higher nutritional value such as hot dogs and eggs. We need volunteers to wrap and prepare the food so that it is ready to be served. Once everything is ready to go, we need to load the van for transportation to the serve site.
Our cook site is located on Capitol Hill, on the bottom floor of Campion Tower, a dorm at Seattle University. Walk up the stairs and get in by knocking or using the button on the far left door.

Serve Site
The serve site is where it all happens. This is where you as a volunteer are able to interact with the homeless and get to see how you can make a difference. AOK Friends needs your help to pass out items to the homeless. This could be the hot dogs cooked at the serve site, eggs, bottled water condiments and any other items we are serving.
The serve site is located in Downtown Seattle Under the I-5 Bridge. Parking can be found under the I-5 bridge.

Food Donations
We are always looking for food donations to add something extra to the serve. Commonly we need bottled water and sweets such as muffins and cinnamon rolls and things pre-purchased at the store. Anything will help so if you would like to donate those extra can goods that would be great! Make sure you don't make your favorite dish at home and bring it to donate because any prepared dish needs to be cooked in a commerical kitchen, but we might be able to work something out in advance if you let us know.

Drives
Food is just one of the necessities of life and our volunteers strive to do as much as they can to help out. If you would like to put on a clothing drive in addition to the food that we already serve, you can become involved. Some successful drives that we've done in the past are sleeping bags, shoes, socks and tops. Contact us to get more information.

Monetary Donations
Expansion is great! Providing a better selection of food, more serves and covering a greater area are things that we are looking into. By clicking on the PayPal link on the left of the screen you know that your funds will be going to help the ones who need it.
Click on our contacts link to find out specific times and places to volunteer or if you have any other questions, comments or concerns. Currently, we need volunteers on Sunday's for the cook and serve. We also send out a weekly e-mail newsletter that you can sign up for.
As a volunteer, you are the star. You are the one who makes things possible because without you, none of this would be possible.
